Rollover guide
401(k) to Gold IRA Rollover
An eligible 401(k) distribution can often be rolled directly to an IRA, but not every plan distribution qualifies.
Direct rollover
The IRS says a plan participant can ask the administrator to make an eligible payment directly to another retirement plan or IRA. Taxes generally are not withheld from a direct rollover amount.
Distributions that may not be eligible
IRS 401(k) guidance lists examples such as required minimum distributions, hardship distributions and certain periodic payments.
Order of operations
- Confirm that the amount is eligible for rollover.
- Choose an appropriate IRA custodian/trustee.
- Confirm the account’s fees and permitted investments.
- Then evaluate precious-metals dealers and qualifying products.
Tax caution: Verify your specific transaction with the plan administrator/custodian and an appropriate tax professional before moving retirement assets.
